Earthlings a Documentary that will change your life

Narrated by Academy Award Nominee Joaquin Phoenix and featuring music by the critically acclaimed platinum artist Moby, EARTHLINGS is a documentary film about humankind's complete economic dependence on animals raised for pets, food, clothing, entertainment and scientific research. Using hidden cameras and never-before-seen footage, EARTHLINGS chronicles the day-to-day practices of the largest industries in the world, all of which rely entirely on animals for profit. Powerful, informative, controversial and thought-provoking, EARTHLINGS is by far the most comprehensive documentary ever produced on the correlation between nature, animals and human economic interests

It is a must see film. I highly recommend it to everyone. You can view it online for free at the following link

Dogs and Cats on Death Row

Dogs on Death Row

Did you know that the United States alone kills over four million cats and dogs a year! Why? You ask, because of careless owners and breeders. The pet overpopulation problem is huge, so huge that every minute of every hour in every day about 50-75 kittens or puppies are born. That equals out to 3000-4500 every hour! There are not enough homes for all of them. That is a fact. The only possible way to stop this endless breeding is to require by law that every dog or cat be spayed or neutered. Responsible breeders should be required to purchase breeding certificates for each pet they have per year; that isn’t spayed or neutered. Those who do not spay or neuter would be fined heavily or could get jail time. Fines or jail time should also be imposed on those who dump their pets in the streets. Make the penalties stiff that is what is needed. Why are people so careless about their pets? Why do they allow all the killings to go on? Well one reason is that so many people want to breed their own dog or cat and their only reason is to get a duplicate of their current beloved pet. So what happens to the others in the litter? Most will end up in a local animal shelter on death row with the countless others.

Each shelter pet has a story; isn’t anyone listening to them? Do their stories not matter? Visit your local shelter and look at each animal in the eyes and ask, “Why are you here.” No words will be spoken but, you will see it in each and every one of their eyes the heartbreak they feel and the sadness they have in their hearts. Then ask yourself is breeding or being careless worth it. I think not.

What is going on with Craigslist

At one time Craigslist was a great place to place classified ads, have good discussions and meet new people. Then something happened. No longer is Craigslist such a happy place. There is constant fighting on the Tampa and Atlanta pet sections, bickering back and forth about anything and everything.
I tested Craigslist recently to see what would happen if I placed a pet posting for a dog that needs a home. I did not include an adoption fee in the listing only contact information for the shelter that was housing the pet. After waiting more than a half hour this ad never appeared online. Although you could edit the ad from your email link the actual posting was never able to be seen by the public. This has happened nine times out of ten. I tried a second time, only this time I created a posting for a pet cage that I wanted to sale. It appeared and stayed on Craigslist for two days, then flagged by craigslist. I have even tried to contact Craigslist to find out why this is happening; only to get an automated response telling you to check out their FAQs which are in the least bit helpful.
Craigslist as it appears has started only allowing postings through that they want. Not what the public wants. Their policy states no animal sales only animals needing to be re-homed. Ok. Then what is wrong with shelter animals? Why are they constantly getting flagged off or never allowed to appear. In some cities like Raleigh there are plenty of shelter pet listings, no problem there. Is it because the moderator for Raleigh likes animals? Possibly and hopefully, those are just my thoughts.........

Check out http://www.kijiji.com
This is a free classifieds site that is worldwide and is yet to flag any ads placed (at least for the animals). Kudos to you Kijiji and welcome to the United States.

The facts about pet shop puppies

Purchasing a new puppy from a pet store or bad breeder is a horrible idea. It has happened to many; they see a cute tiny puppy in a window at the mall and have to have it. That person has just contributed to the death of another shelter pet. Pet overpopulation is a major problem in this country; in fact, over six million pets are killed annually in U.S. shelters. Large puppy breeders or puppy mills like the Hart Corporation produce over three hundred thousand puppies a year. These babies are sold to pet stores all over the country. They are often sold with high price tags to the unsuspecting public. Many are sick or diseased. Companies like this breed the same females year after year until they can no longer produce and they are put to death. They live their lives in rows of cages with no human intervention. The price these moms pay to produce a puppy is their life. Another factor in overpopulation problem is irresponsible owners who do not spay or neuter or who dump animals at the shelter when they decide they don’t want them any longer or for whatever reason they make up. Many buy a puppy, not realizing the work involved in its care. In fact, over thirty percent of shelter pets are purebred. Some even have registration papers. Shelters are full of very adoptable, love starved animals that have no one to love them. They each have a story. Some are worse than others, but they too need love and with each purchase or breeding of a new puppy, there is the death of another unloved shelter pet. For those homeless pets it is a race against time to survive.People should remember the encouraging words of Bob Barker, from The Price is Right, “Help control the pet population. Spay and neuter your pet.”
