How to save the last of America's Wild Horses

Photo Credit: Madeleine Pickens Wild Horses

Why do the BLM want the horses removed? The answer is to make room for cattle to graze. The BLM says there isn’t enough forage for both of them, so the horses must go. Why can’t the cattle go somewhere else? Where can they go? Over 80% of all farmland is to grow crops to feed livestock NOT people. Did you know that 95% of oats and 80% of corn grown in the world are used to feed animals, while people starve due to the poor function of developed land? People are dying from E-Coli found in the food they eat and this bacteria comes factory farms. These farms are unlike anything you have ever seen they are deplorable houses of death. There are thirteen cattle slaughter houses in the United States and they murder approximately 100,000 cows per day!

So here is the answer to the problem of the wild horses. Stop eating cows! Decrease the demand for meat and the horses will not suffer from it. Every time you eat a burger, another cow is needed to replace the meat. 2000 gallons of water are needed to make one steak, 16 pounds of grain is needed to make one pound of beef. It takes one acre of land to produce only 165 pounds of beef! Think about that when you have over 100 million cows in the United States alone and more being imported from Canada. Cattle are then fattened up in massive feedlots before being brutally murdered. Some of these feedlots can hold up to 150,000 cows at once!
Until the meat production decreases dramatically the wild horses will not be the only ones that are affected. Think about your dining preferences, save the majestic wild horses, yourself and the life of a very unlucky cow.

Dairyland Greyhound Racetrack in Kenosha , Wisconsin will be closing on December 31, 2009.

900 Greyhounds will need to be adopted otherwise they will be euthanized, now is a great time to consider adopting a Greyhound. They are very loving and laid back. They don’t need the space people think they need. They are great for an active family because they have been crated almost all their lives and they sleep about 18 out of the 24 hours a day. They are just looking for someone to love them and supply them with a warm bed!!!!
They test the dogs to see if they are cat friendly and or small dog friendly. They also know if a dog should be a single dog or if they would be great in a 2, 3, or 4 dog house!!!
PLEASE CONTACT THE RACE TRACK ADOPTION CENTER DIRECTLY AT (262) 612-8256
The adoption center is open 7 days a week. These dogs do not have long to live, please help one or more of them if you can.

“Oreo’s Law” Would Give Dogs a Second Chance at Life -

FROM THE NOKILL ADVOCACY CENTER
The ASPCA killed Oreo, an abused dog, despite the fact that a local No Kill shelter had offered to save her. You can read more about the case in this independently written opinion for the Examiner: The Meaning of Oreo.

In response to the killing of Oreo, two New York State legislators have introduced legislation to prevent this from ever happening again. Please join us in supporting "Oreo's Law" so that her needless death will not be in vain.

URGENT Labrador Beagle Mix Carrollton Georgia Needs Home NOW!

Please, please help Dwight, he's been held over for almost three weeks (unusual) because he is so sweet, and late Sunday is likely his last day. Its ironic the same people who have held him over hoping, will be the ones to end his life.

He came to the shelter happy and bright, and full of life. In a few short weeks, he has become sad and depressed, he curls up in a ball in his cage, no longer hoping for the attention he originally sought. He has been passed by one too many times. He is "quietly dignified", a special boy IF given the opportunity.

Please someone help him, he is going to lose his life for being patient and waiting to be noticed. Along the way he's lost HOPE, it can be renewed. Many of the most loving and devoted dogs I've known have had similar stories. They should inspire all of us to keep trying for the ones still waiting to shine.

Thank you for taking the time to xpost for Dwight.

STOP FUNDING THE ASPCA - IN THE NAME OF OREO

Last June, a one-year old dog named Oreo was intentionally thrown off a sixth floor Brooklyn roof top by her abuser. Oreo sustained two broken legs and a fractured rib. Although the facts are sketchy, Oreo also appears to have been beaten in the past—several of the neighbors in the building where Oreo lived reported hearing the sounds of the dog being hit. The ASPCA nursed her back to health and arrested the perpetrator. They also dubbed her the “miracle dog.”

The miracle was short-lived. On Friday, the ASPCA killed Oreo, despite the fact that a local No Kill shelter had offered to save her.

We have said this before, but it bears repeating: Working to reform the humane movement to bring it back to its original mission of saving lives, we have experienced many unexpected and heartbreaking moments of animals being betrayed by their so-called protectors.

We believe this is one of them. PLEASE READ THIS ARTICLE ABOUT OREO AND THE FAULTS OF THE ASPCA; independently written article for the Examiner: The Meaning of Oreo.

Beautiful Lab Mix puppy "Mr. Tibbs" needs a home

This handsome lab/shepherd mix is ready for adoption! Mr Tibbs came into our shelter in Greenville about two months ago. He had been hit by a car. A good Samaritan paid for him to go to the vet for treatment. He is fully recovered now…and ready to go to a rescue or a forever home! Mr Tibbs has lots of energy and would do well with an active family. He is still just a baby, only about 10 months old. He has been neutered and is heartworm negative. He has fully recovered from his injuries to his leg.

PLEASE help Mr Tibbs. He can’t stay at the vet any longer—he needs a home.

Please contact noahsarksrescue@mac.com or animalcareservices@greenvillecounty.org if you can help.
